Sage Vyasa came to Thiruvalgadu to worship Vadaranyaeswarar there. He stayed in a place full of trees which were found for his penance. He worshipped Shiva there and he obtained the boon of writing of creating the Vedas. Sage Vyasa told the 4 Vedas (Rig, Sama, Yajur and Atharvana) to Vinayaka and Lord Vinayaka wrote the Vedas with his broken tusk. Since Lord Shiva gave the boon to write the Vedas he is named called Vedheeswarar and the Amman is called Vedanayaki. The Place where Vyasa stayed was named after him as Vyasapuram.
