The old name of this place was Manikandaeswaram later it was called Anavaradha Sundhara Nallur during the Chola period. Shiva was then known as Manieeswaramudayar Later the name has been changed to Paduvoor and now called as Padur.
This temple was built by the Cholas before 1100years. Later 1123AD Vikrama Chola has renovated the temple.
The name of the Street in which the temple is situated is then called Kalathumettu Street now it is called Eswaran Koyil Street.
There was a Vishnu Temple in this village. Since the temple got damaged the main Perumal has been installed in this temple. Now it is a Shiva Vishnu temple.
Some of the Parivara deities have been newly made and installed.
Any villager of the village will lead us to the temple.
