The Parivara deities normally found in all Shiva temples are also found here.

People worship this temple to get an elevated position in their life.

History:

Sage Durvasa brought the garland which was decorated on Mahavishnu to give it to Indhiran. Indhiran did not receive it in his hands but instead ordered his white elephant Iravadham to receive it from the Sage. The elephant took the garland from the Sage and stamped it under its feet. Sage Dhurvasar cursed Indhiran to lose his post as the ruler of the Indhira Loga. Indhiran realised his mistake and in order to get relieved from the curse of the sage he went on a journey to many Shiva temples. He came to this temple, created a pond and stayed here realising some speciality in this place. Everyday her bathed in this pond and worshipped Lord Shiva here. He realized that his lifespan kept decreasing due to the curse of the Sage. Therefore he created a 'Agazhi' inside the temple and filled it with water. He spread lotus flowers in the water and he worshipped Lord Shiva by performing pooja with these flowers. One day Lord Shiva appeared before Indhiran and removed the curse and he was bestowed with his old position as the King of Indhira Loga and Long life. So people perform Ayush homa here to get relieved from the difficulties of body and mind at the time of death. The rituals performed at the age of 60, 70 and 80 (normally at Thirukadaiyur temple) is performed here also to lead a long life.

Mahavishnu is believed to take the Lotus flowers from here and grew it in the pond in Thirumalpur. He used these Lotus flowers to get the Chakra from Shiva in Thirumalpur. That is an entirely different story related to Thirumalpur.
