This temple is one of the famous temples in the lines of Kuvam.
There is a big tank near the temple.
The old name for Chinna Mandali is Sirumanavai.
This temple is based on Anagadham, Visukthi and Aagneyam. These are collectively termed as Aadharas.
In the Deva Koshta there are Ganesha, Dhakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga Sannidhis.
There is a Nandhi, Vinayaka, Valli Deivanai Subramaniyar, Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar, Ayyappan, Surya, Chandran, Naalvar and Hanuman Sannidhis in this temple.
We also Rama Linga Adigalar Sannidhi in this temple.
There are 2 slab inscriptions found in this temple.
In a slab there is the Surya and Chandra engraved on it. This denotes that this temple must have been built before 2nd Century AD.
In another slab there are figures of a man in a praying posture and a women beside him.
The details of these slabs are unknown.
This temple is the first temple to be worshipped as Aahaya Sthalam in the world.
A Saint named Sirumanavai Munuswami had lived in this village and attained Mukthi. He is the author of the famous Natrajar Pathu. He was the contemporary of Ramalinga Adigalar. He has also written books such as Shiva Mahamandhiram, Navagraha mahamandhiram, Mooligai marmam, Prapanja urpathi, Sukandha parimala Sasthiram and many more.
People with Navagraha Dhoshas worship here and obtain relief
This is a special Sthala for people with Meena Rasi. They are recommended to perform Archana with Vilva leaves on Wednesday to Niranjeeswarar of this temple.
Saint Aadhisankarar has visited the temple.
The Kanchi Mahaperiyavar has also worshipped this temple.
The temple is small but well maintained.
