Shiva: Thirupadhakadudaiyamahadevar

Amman: No Amman

Speciality:

The name for Edayarpakkam was Raja Vidhyadhara Chadhurvedhimangalam.

This temple was built by Cholendhra Simha Chari in the period of King Kulothunga I.

The temple has Gajaprashta Vimana and in tamil it is called Thoonganai maadam.

During the days of King Kulothunga Chola I the temples did not have a Amman Sannidhi.

The Mulavar deity Shiva, Nandhi and Vinayaka and Dhakshinamurthy on the southern Koshta and Brahma and Durga in the western Koshta is found. The place where the Lingothbava is situated in the west Koshta has been destructed and not found now.

This temple is a typical Kulothunga Chola temple. No additions have been made.

The sculptures and the Artistic look take us back to Chola period.

This temple is in the extreme corner of the village.

For a long period of time this temple was full of bushes and no one went to worship there. But now the place has been cleaned and maintained such that the exquisite art of the Cholas can be seen.

There are many inscriptions found in the temple. The northern side inscriptiion states that a Brahim lady left some lands whih could be given to the shepherds after her death. The money from the lands could be used to buy cows and the sum gained from that could be used for lighting lamps in the temple. Since the Land was in the corner of the village nobody was willing to cultivate these lands. The shepherds could not buy enough cows to collect money for enough offerings for the temple. Two other inscriptions are seen at the base of the temple. These too are about the gift of Sheep and the money gained could be used for lighting lamps in the temple. The other inscription states the name of Shiva as Thiru Padhakadudaiya Mahadevar at Purisai in Purisai Naadu, a subdivision of Manvur Kottam in Jayamkonda Chola Mandalam. Rajadhi Raja Deva II, has gifted gold coins in exchange of Land. In his period the village was called Purisai.

The name of the Lord has not been changed form the period of Kulothunga Chola I till now.
