KODI KODUTHA NADHAR TEMPLE
Distance: 8kms from Villupuram
Shiva: Kodi Kodutha Nadhar
Amman: Yedu Paditha Nayaki
History:
A crore sidhdhars gathered to form penance. So, they created a Shiva Linga for this purpose and installed in the middle of a forest. They kept all their inscriptions, collections of Vedhas, and all Vedic parchments before Lord Shiva and sealed the place. They made an opening on the wall through which Lord Shiva could be seen. They worshipped him from there and performed penance in that place. When they left the place they obtained the boon from the Lord that those who come to this place and worship the Lord through the opening would become wealthy and prosperous. Many centuries passed by.
Later a King who went through the forest was amazed to see this temple with only one opening to view the lord and no place of entry and no deities around. He wanted to expand the temple but his kingdom was under crisis. he prayed tot he Lord through the opening and told his wish that he wanted to expand the temple and also save his people from crisis. When he returned to his Kingdom he was out of the crisis within a limited span of time. He was blessed with a crore of money (a crore in those days constituted enormous and uncountable wealth). He was amazed and he came back to this temple and worshipped the Lord again. He named Shiva as Kodi Kodutha Nadhar. As he had promised he built Shrines for Vinayaka, Muruga and the Nandhi.
After the 15th Century the temple was opened by the rulers of that period. They anted to develop the temple and build it according to the Vedha Agama. They wanted to build a goddess Shrine and therefore they opened the temple. They discovered many manuscripts, Parchments and other valuable Vedic inscriptions inside the temple. They could understand only a few of the documents they found. They built an Ambaal Shrine and placed the documents in a safe sealed form under the Ambaal. They built the Shirne over this. They had taken the documents which they were able to understand so that they could use it for the betterment of the people. Scholars found that the Parchments contained rare medical combinations, remedies for rare diseases and many other rare informations which could not be normally understood by others.
The Kings after the 16th Century constructed the temple with all the Parivara Deities and created a way to the temple and cleaned up the way to the temple in the forest. Even then they built a door to enter into the Ambaal Shrine through which one could get inside and get the Dharshan of Shiva. But otherwise as wished by the Sidhdhars one could see Kodi Kodutha Nadhar only through the small opening between the Lord and the Nandhi.
Since the Parchments have been submitted to the Ambaal people believe that she is reading those inscriptions which other cannot understand and bless others by fulfilling the wishes of her devotees. Therefore She is named as Yedu Paditha Nayaki.
